Distant 650 miles from Buenos Aires, Mendoza, though founded in 1561, was totally rebuilt to its present modern outlook with three-lined streets skirted by irrigation ditches, numerous squares and parks. Downtown area has intense commercial activity, with many shops, sidewalk cafes and restaurants.
